Supportive Skin Care in Theory & Practice
2018 Early Spring Holistic Aesthetician Apprenticeship
Expectations and Requirements
It is expected that you will commit to 250 hours altogether during the 4 months of the apprenticeship, though most of this is off site with the materials we provide. We require 50 hours in-person at Brooklyn Herborium (usually the Windsor Terrace location), though you may find yourself here more than that if your schedule allows it!
The introductory meeting will jump right in to fundamentals and protocols and we will hand out an extreme amount of information as well as the tools that you will need. Please take very good care of them as there are very expensive to replace. You will then have 3 weeks to review the information before our weekly circles start at the end of February. I promise, you will be able to incorporate so much of this into what you are already doing after just the initial 4 hours.
Prior to every meeting, you will be given a list of things to have read or videos to watch. It is worth your while to do so. Every circle session has cards with diagrams and descriptions of exactly what you are expected to get out of it that you will have received in the first meeting. All Aesthetician Circles will be documented (including video) and recaps sent out as they are edited. These are not professional-quality (yet), but very useful.
It is possible to make up meeting “time” by volunteer hours in our workshop (helping to make, pour, or label products) or in our retail shop (helping customers, sweeping floors, watering plants…) or by coming to our community Friday night workshops which are not required but offered to current apprentices at no cost and professionals who have completed our training at a discount. The current offerings are available at www.betweenyouandthemoon.com
In addition, we invite you to get cozy with our blog (if you have not done so already at www.brooklynherborium.com as well as our product offerings at www.betweenyouandthemoon.com.
Applicants must be accepted into our program though an interview process. We have limited spaces available each season. Applicants must either have finished their licensing coursework for the state/area they live or will work in or be enrolled in a current licensing program. Our program has been accepted for credit hours from different schools, but we cannot guarantee they will accept your time here. (So far, every school we have asked has said yes though!) It is your responsibility to find out if this is offered and keep track of your hours.
